Five duffers advance to district golf final

St. John/Endicott’s Errin Schuster carded a 92 to book the top overall girls scored at the District 9 sub-district tournament Tuesday on the par-72 Columbia Point Golf Course in Richland.

Earl Gaines of Tekoa/Oakesdale/Rosalia shot 89 on the same Columbia Point course to top county boys in Monday’s sub-district tourney.

Errin Schuster and Michal Schuster were the lone local girls to advance to next Monday’s district finale at Columbia Point. Michal finished fourth with a 104.

Joining Earl Gaines in the boys tourney next Tuesday will be Casey Brown, who shot a 102, and Joe Gaines at 92.

Twenty-three of the 46 boys entered in the sub-district advanced to the district tourney, with the top 15 finishers qualifying for state at the Tri-Cities Country Club.

Ryan Baumgart of DeSales was top dog for boy golfers with a three-over 75.

Girls advanced 15 of 29 entrants to district, where they will compete for six slots to the state finals.

Nine Whitman County boys missed the district tourney cut, set at 102.

Eagle finishers were William Knott 106, Dakota White 122, Travis Nieman 124, John Quinton 125, Evan Jones 143 and Steven Bowen 149.

Nighthawks shooting too high were John Kuhn 116, Reece Johnson 127 and Max Mueller 133.

Missing the cut of 125 on the girls side were SJE’s Errin Elkins 104, and Nighthawks Margot Kliewer 137, and Nicole Zimmerman 152.
