Three dogs to swing for state crown

Caleb Bravard, Kyle Johnson and Tyler Stevenson will swing for Colfax at the state B golf championships next week at the Tri-Cities Country Club in Kennewick.

The trio punched their tickets to state after finishing in the top 18 at the District 7 championships on the par-72 Deer Park links Monday afternoon.

Bravard turned in an 81 Monday. Combined with his sub-district 80 from the previous week, his 161 was good for fifth place.

Johnson led the ‘dog duffers Monday with a 77. His two-round score of 166 was good for sixth. Stevenson shot 83 Monday to come up with a 174 overall for ninth.

Colfax placed second, one-half point behind District champ Odessa in team scoring.

Henry Ensley finished two strokes off the state cut after shooting 92 Monday for an overall score of 188. Dylan McNeilly matched his sub-district score with a 98 to finish 24th.

Zach Powell of Odessa shot 74 Monday to wind up as the district’s best golfer with a two-round score of 150.

Lady Bulldog Paige Mackleit was scheduled to swing her sticks in the district championships at Deer Park Wednesday. Mackleit, a freshman, earned a spot in the district tourney after shooting a 130 at the sub-district in Deer Park last Wednesday, May 12.
