Colfax golf team wins state trophy

Colfax Golf Coach Chris Gorton holds the state trophy after the Bulldogs took team honors. Players from the left are Tyler Stevenson, Caleb Bravard and Kyle Johnson. Bravard placed second and Stevenson 12th to compile 74 team points.

Colfax golfers last Wednesday, May 26, brought home another state championship trophy after bagging the most team points for the B win at Tri-Cities Country Club in Kennewick. Colfax earned 74 team points with a second-place finish by Caleb Bravard and a 12th place by Tyler Stevenson.

Bravard, who hit a hole-in-one on the first round, finished the second day with a 69 for a two-day total of 139, six strokes back of Nathan Putman of Life Christian. Stevenson finished with a 149 over the two days.

Kyle Johnson, whose day one score advanced him to the final day, was disqualified because of a scorecard error, according to Coach Chris Gorton.

Team points are awarded by placings with Bravard earning 45 and Stevenson 29 for the 74 points. Bear Creek placed second with a 69. Colfax was one of only three teams to qualify three golfers in the final round, and the points compiled by Bravard and Stevenson were enough to take the trophy.

On the girls side, St. John/Endicott golfers Erin and Michal Schuster brought home a third place trophy with 21 points.

Erin Schuster finished in seventh place after she shot 87 on day two, which combined with a day-one 92 for a tournament total of 179. Michal Schuster finished 13th place after shooting 100 on day one and 92 on day two.

Life Christian bagged the team trophy with 45 points, and Kira Powell of Odessa won the tournament with a two-day total of 145.
