Lamont violators now go to court

Rule breakers in Lamont will now make the hour-long drive south to Colfax.

Whitman County commissioners Monday approved the town’s request to have violations of city code heard before the county’s district court.

Prior to Monday’s decision, violations of city rules governing such things as pets and too many cars parked outside a house had been judged by the city council.

Mayor Steve Lacy said having Judge Douglas Robinson hear the cases will remove disputes among neighbors in the state’s second smallest town. Lacy said hard feelings have occasionally evolved from the council’s jury decisions....
