Beverly Joan Deal
Beverly Joan Deal, 77, resident of Palouse for the past five years, died early Tuesday morning May 25, 2010, at the Avalon Care Center in Pullman. She has been cremated and burial will be in St. Elmo, Ill. A memorial service will not be conducted.
Born June 29, 1932, in Peoria, Ill, to Earl and Dollie Hinds Matheny, she was raised in Peoria. She married Walter Hopple in 1947 and after that marriage ended to Robert T. Deal May 31, 1949.
They resided in Bartonville, Ill., where she raised six children. In 1971, the family moved to Bonner’s Ferry, Idaho, where she worked as a waitress in several local cafés.
They retired to Sequim in 1985 and then to Port Angeles in 2003. In 2005 after the death of her husband, she moved to Palouse to be close to her daughter.
In her leisure time she enjoyed reading and sitting outside in the sun.
Survivors include children Diana Lynn (Hopple) Martin of Arlington, Texas; Thomas Michael Deal of Spokane; Kathleen Ann (Deal) Winkel of Parkdale, Ore .; Timothy Alan Deal of Spokane; Rosemary Christine (Deal) Gage of Palouse; sixteen grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son Daniel Lee Deal in 1952 and a daughter Madelyn Marie (Deal) Chesser of Peoria, Ill., in 2003.
The family suggests remembrances be made to the Palouse Community Center Building Fund, PO Box 23, Palouse, 99161.
Ann S. Needham
A graveside service for Ann S. Needham, 87, former long time Colfax resident, will be today, Thursday, June 10, at 2 p.m. in the Colfax Cemetery. The Rev. Donald Moore, pastor of Colfax Church of the Nazarene, will officiate.
Mrs. Needham died Sunday, June 6, 2010, at the Tri-State Memorial Hospital in Clarkston. She has lived at the Avalon Care Center in Pullman for the last five years.
Born Oct. 29, 1922, in Duluth, Minn., she was raised in Duluth and graduated from high school there. She moved to the Tri-Cities area and worked at Hanford where she met Lawrence (Red) Needham. They were married in Colfax in December of 1953. They made their home in Colfax where he worked as a mechanic for Colfax Motors and later for Arrow Machinery. Ann worked for many years in the housekeeping department of the Colfax nursing home. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and watching television. Her husband died in 1998 and shortly thereafter she moved to Pullman.
She is survived by two sons; Eric Needham, Pullman, and Randy Needham, Spokane; two grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter and her brother, Stefan Guttormsson, LaCrosse, Wis.
