Oakesdale students get awards

Awards Night was last Thursday night at the Oakesdale Gym. Desiree Chappell received the Scholarship Trophy and Spokane Falls Volleyball Scholarship.

Drake Hinkins received the Ron Robinson Award, Leadership Trophy, Service Trophy, Outstanding Male Athlete, Whitman County Association of Realtors Scholarship, Colfax Grange Supply Scholarship, Oakesdale Ed. Assoc. Scholarship, Masonic Scholarship, Hope Chapter Scholarship, WSU Regents Scholarship, Carson Scholarship and Nighthawk Alumni Scholarship.

Katie Graffis received the Oakesdale Ed. Assoc. Scholarship, Touch the Future Scholarship, SFCC and WSSRA Scholarship.

Alisa Jones received the U of I Alumni Scholarship, Grace M. Bailey Music Award, U of I Achievement Scholarship and Western Undergraduate Exchange.

Lance Lindgren received the co-Outstanding Boy Athlete and Courtenay Perry received the Outstanding Girl Athlete.

Nine Oakesdale seniors graduated on Saturday afternoon. Graduating seniors were Desiree Chappell, Nathanial Coleman, Cora Fisher, Katie Graffis, Drake Hinkins, Joey Hooper, Brandon Hovde, Alisa Jones and Nick Wright.

Their class motto was “If we cannot find the road to success we will make one.”

Physical education classes for Grades K-10 just finished the spring presidential fitness challenge testing including sit-ups, shuttle run, sit and reach, distance run and pull-ups.

All will receive a participation certificate and those who score in the 50th percentile or better in all tests will receive a national award and those who score 85th percentile or higher in all five tests will receive a presidential award.

Winning national awards were Ryan Henning, Lou Ellen Reed, Jacob Hines, Jordan Paddock, LJ Peringer, Logan Reed, Haddie Fisch, Dillon Meserve, Jacey Headley, Emily Paddock, Zach Conklin, Kaela Dewan and Rebekah Fisch. Winning presidential awards were Matthew Hockett, Lizzy Perry, Evan Henning, Lindsey Lindgren, Tanner Dingman, Parker Perry, Alexa Lindgren, Courtenay Perry and Katie Renstrom.

Eighth Grade Promotion will be today, Thursday, at 8:30 a.m. in the gym. Following promotion the eighth graders along will junior high and high school will travel to Silverwood for reward day.

Elementary students will travel to Wonderland in Spokane for their reward day.

Last day of school will be Friday. The annual school fun run will be at 9 a.m. with school being released at 10 a.m.
