Todd Scholz Monday night stepped down after serving as scoutmaster of Colfax Troop 595. He started when his twin sons, Mathew and Michael, joined the troop. He continued in the volunteer job after both boys departed Colfax for college. Both boys earned the Eagle badge while in the troop. Todd Scholz also earned the Eagle during the years he was a scout.
Mark Clinton will be the new scoutmaster of the troop.
Sean McAdams will be the new troop chairman, and Annett Miller will be the new advancement chairman.
Mark Sackmann and Steve Salzman, both of Endicott, were also recognized for their service to the troop.
Rank advancements presented at the year-end court of honor at Schmuck Park Monday were to Jared Thompson, tenderfoot; Nick McAdams, first class, and Xavier Thompson, life. Earning merit badges were Brady Wuestney, reading; Larry Jenson, first aid; A.J. Garcia, citizenship in the world and computers; Nick McAdams, animal science, and Daniel Thomas, citizenship in the community and basketry.
For the centennial year of scouting in the United States, scouts have the opportunities to earn special ribbons. Wuesteney earned a ribbon for leadership, and Garcia, Cody Miller, Thompson, Michael Clinton, Nick McAdams, Thomas and Thompson received the community service award.
Clinton, Garcia, Nick McAdams, Miller, Austin Nue and Wuestney earned the outdoors award. Garcia, Nue, Anakin Settle, Miller, Hunter Moseby, Thompson, Joey Rogers, Jenson, Clinton, Michael Wilson, McAdams and Chris Koenig attended the centennial camporee at the Spokane Interstate Fairgrouns and received participation patches.
Adults at the Spokane camporee included Scholz, Mark Clinton, Pat Thompson, Sara Thompson and McAdams.
Colfax Cub scouts attended with Karen Wuestney and Helena Johnson.
