Lewiston bull rider tops Rosalia rodeo

Rider Michael Vance of Dayton hangs on to a Bar X bull in the bull riding portion of Saturday’s Battle Days rodeo.

The only rider to stay on a bull for the full eight seconds, Mike Boswell of Lewiston claimed the top spot in the annual bull riding event at Rosalia’s Battle Days. Bull riding brought in eight riders from around the state, while five competed in the bronc busting event.

Boswell was given a 76 score for his ride to claim the $1,200 purse.

Riders sat atop stock brought up from Asotin by the Bar X Ranch. The Bar X beasts proved to be the toughest creatures in the ring under a sunny Rosalia sky that brought out more than a hundred spectators.

“Our animals were feeling pretty good under that sun,” said John Ely, owner of the Bar X.

On the broncos, Jacob Stacey booked an 82 to best Josh Brewer’s 75 and take the $400 top spot. Brewer walked away with a $200 prize for his ride. Both riders hail from Moses Lake.

Barrel racing featured 11 racers in three classes.

Denene Douglas turned in the fastest time among three racers in the $2,000 novice class class at 17.338 seconds. The win paid out $146.

Jolene Hoburg took home $171 for beating five racers in the open division with a time of 16.780.

Lynn Beck clocked 17.583 to bag $126 as she topped three racers in the $500 novice class.

Rosalia Gifted Grannies and Bank of Fairfield were major sponsors of the event. Lee Daggett was the announcer.
