Colfax UMC to launch monthly meal program

Colfax United Methodist Church will host its first monthly community meal next Thursday, June 24, beginning at 6 p.m. The church plans to host a free meal on the fourth Thursday of each month to meet what church members feel is a real need to support families in the area. Donna Thompson and Connie McBride are heading the project.

The monthly meals is one of several ministries the church plans to undertake. They hope to work with others in the community to increase the number of free meals.

“We can use all the help we can get to serve our community the way they deserve to be served,” Thompson commented.

Anyone interested can contact the church office.

The church previously hosted two events for single parents to provide an opportunity for socialization and building support networks. The first event was a Christmas party for parents and children and the second event was a Valentine Party for local single mothers. Participants received a gift card to purchase products offered at the party or to use at a later date. The church also provided child care during the event. Many of the children made Valentine cards for their moms.
