Junior rodeo brings 130 competitors to arena

The 35th annual Colfax Junior Rodeo hosted 130 contestants over the weekend at the Palouse Empire Fairground.

A full rodeo was held both days, with contestants competing for the best times and scores of the weekend. The All-Around Champion Cowgirl went to Taylor Turner of Burbank. Turner competed in the Junior Girls Division (ages 9-11), winning the poles, steer daubing and steer riding events and placing second in the goat tying and third in the barrel racing.

The All-Around Champion Cowboy went to Cameron Plaisted of Moses Lake. Cameron competed in the PeeWee Boys Division (ages 6-8), winning the CA Stake and Dummy Roping. He placed third in barrels and poles, and second in the goat flanking.

Junior Rodeo competitors compete in one of five different age divisions for points that are earned for each event. Each age division competes in six different events. A custom made buckle goes to winners of each event in every age category. The funding for these prizes comes from donations made by local businesses and supporters of the Colfax Junior Rodeo group.
