New WSU weather chief

Washington State University announced yesterday the hiring of Gerrit Hoogenboom, a professor of agrometeorology and crop modeling, as the new director of the school’s agricultural weather network, AgWeatherNet. Ralph Cavatieri, director of the WSU ag research center, said Hoogenboom will take the helm Aug. 1.

AgWeatherNet posts raw weather data from 134 monitoring stages posted around Washington on the internet to give farmers real-time information.

Hoogenboom comes to WSU from the University of Georgia. His research has focused on the impacts climate change on agriculture.
