Pullman Patriots dropped a pair of league games Tuesday prior to going into another weekend of Palouse Summer Series action. The Spokane Blue Devils took both games Tuesday at Bailey-Brayton field, 9-3 in the opener and 6-4 in the closer.
The two losses left the Patriots at 4-6 in league play after a split last Wednesday left them at 4-4 in the Spokane AAA Legion standings.
In the first game, the Blue Devils scored two in the first inning and kept stacking runs through the game. The Devils finished with 10 hits.
JJ Robinson started on the mound for the Pats, and Nick Scurry relieved him in the fifth.
Chase Druffel topped an eight-hit Patriots’ offense with a double and a homer. Joe Johnson and Brady Mooney each had two hits.
In the second game, Brandon Hoadley for the Patriots and Brendan Herzer for the Blue Devils battled.
Each side booked eight hits, but the Devils pulled it out with a four-run charge in the sixth. Two Patriot errors took a toll.
Robinson and Pete Barner each had two hits for the Patriots.
Last Wednesday, the Pats split a double with the Spokane Cannons
Robinson allowed two hits in throwing an 8-1 win in the second game. He pitched no-hit ball until last inning. and fanned five Cannons over the first six.
The Patriots led 3-0 after four frames and capped it with a five-run charge in the sixth. Pete Barner had two of the six Patriot hits.
In the first game, the Cannons took control with an eight run charge in the second inning and fought off a five-run charge by the Patriots in the bottom of the sixth for a 11-10 win.
The Patriots were out-hit 10-6 and booked four errors on the loss.
Brett Druffell started for the Patriots, and Nick Scourey relieved him after the early charge by the Cannons in the second inning.
Colfax night gamesPullman Patriots will make two stops at McDonald Park in Colfax for night games under the new lights this weekend for the Palouse Summer Series. The Patriots will play Bellevue tonight, Thursday, at 7:45 p.m. They are also booked back in Colfax Saturday at 7:45 against the Belgrade Bandits.
Also Friday, Colfax softball teams are booked to play under the lights to debut the softball side of the McDonald lights.
