A record crowd took to the terraces at Webbs' Slough at St. John Saturday to watch the USSBA-sanctioned sprint boat races. Race entrants from around the northwest and British Columbia churned up the waters of the tight slough course. Two of the three classes turned out tight competition and extra fast times. The crowd at the slough was estimated at more than 4,000. The boats will be back at the slough Aug. 28.
