Whitman County commissioners Monday approved the second amendment to the county’s 2010 budget. The amendment pushed the county’s operating budget $10,898 further out of balance.
Primarily due to higher health insurance costs, payroll expenditures were adjusted up $42,226. Revenue, primarily grants which were not anticipated added $31,328 on the income side.
The gap in spending and revenue leaves the county looking at an end of the year deficit of $349,690. Barring a sudden, unexpected influx of revenue, the deficit will be covered out of the county’s cash reserves.
