Palouse Art Walk to host 40 artists
Palouse Arts Council and The Bank Left Gallery are preparing for their sixth annual art walk and floriade the weekend of July 9-11. More than 40 artists will exhibit their art, including bronze garden sculptures, paintings, jewelry and many other mediums throughout downtown Palouse, the Grange Building and the Bank Left Gallery. Artists will come from Olympia, Boise, Lewiston, Moscow, Pullman and Palouse.
Bank Left will re-open its second floor to exhibit its third annual floriade, an interpretation of art through flowers and natural and recycled materials.
Samples of displaying artists will be in businesses in downtown Palouse. A “meet the artist” reception will be Friday from 6 to 9 at the Grange building. The art displays in the Grange building will be Saturday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, July 11, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Chalk art creations will be downtown Saturday afternoon.
Opening reception for Bank Left will be Saturday, July 10, from 1 to 8 p.m. Bank Left Bistro will offer a special dinner and concert, “Among the Petals” featuring edible flowers.
Dahmen garden party books Highland Players
Dahmen Barn’s third annual Summer Garden Party will be Saturday, July 10 at 11 a.m. Entertainment will be by the Palouse Highland Players and a live auction is scheduled. Advance reservations are required and seating is limited. Tickets are $15.
Dress is everything from casual to dressy and attendees are encouraged to wear a hat this year in keeping with the Summer Garden Party theme. A people’s choice prize will be given for the best hat.
Seven girls, 13 to 16, participating in the theatre arts summer camp of The Palouse Highland Players, will perform a scene from three Shakespeare plays.
The auction will feature art and craft items donated by Dahmen Barn’s artisans and regional artists.
Tekoa Ice Cream social
Annual Tekoa Community Church Ice Cream Social will be at Tekoa High School, July 14, from 6 to 9 p.m. Homemade goodies will be offered with the ice cream.

Green Hollow PicnicCurrent and past residents of the Green Hollow area are invited to attend the Annual Green Hollow Potluck Picnic on Wednesday, July 7, at 6 p.m. in the covered picnic area of Schmuck Park. Bring your favorite potluck dishes along with your own dinnerware service.

Van Tine granddaughter bornA girl, Stella Jean, was born Sunday, June 20, 2010, at Legacy Emmanuel Hospital in Portland, Ore., to Mike and Kendra Zupan of Portland. Grandparents are Rick and Stephanie Van Tine, Colfax and John and Sandi Zupan, Portland. Great-grandparents are Marilyn Van Tine, Colfax, Sandra Jackson, Genesee and Mike and Mary Ragon, Quilcene, Wash. Great-great-grandmother is Maravene Ragon, Colfax. Weighing seven pounds, five ounces at birth, the baby joins a sister, Anna Pearl, age 2.

The Colfax Branch of Whitman County Library is closed July 4 for Independence Day. Bookdrops and the website remain available for requesting and returning materials.
“Pirates in the Park” will be theme next Thursday, July 8, for the summer reading program at Eells Park in Colfax at 1 p.m. If the weather turns foul, the session will be in the basement of the Colfax Library building.
Today at 1 p.m. kids will celebrate Independence Day with a red, white and blue parade, as part of a six-week summer series, Make a Splash - READ. Next week pirates will invade Summer Reading. Arrg! Mates of all ages are welcome to anchor at Eells Park and join in the fun.
