Dennis Gransbery of Colfax, an assistant coach for Pullman High wrestlers for nine years, has been hired to coach the Colfax Bulldog wrestlers next year. Gransbery will take the coach slot vacated by Jeremy Lanthorn who headed the Colfax program for the last three years.
Gransbery plans to get started next week with summer workout sessions Tuesday and Thursday night at 6:30 p.m.
Gransbery comes to Colfax with a long record of wrestling experience. Last year he competed at the veterans nationals in Las Vegas and won the Greco Roman class and placed second in his age division.
Gransbery said he had to think twice before deciding to make the move from Pullman to the Colfax mats. He has been an assistant for the last two years under Coach Andy Bronson and before that he was an assistatant for Pullman Coach Mike Boone.
Gransbery logged his high school wrestling career with Butte, 13-time Montana champions. He was on two of those title teams in the 145 class during his junior year the 155 class during his senior year.
He then wrestled for two years while he served in the Navy and returned to Montana to wrestle for Montana Tech at Butte where he was a national qualifier for three years in the NAIA division in the 150 pound class.
Gransbery is employed at the USDA’s Ag Research Service in Pullman. He and his wife, BJ, also operate the Siesta Motel in Colfax.
