Official time to move the former Dusty School building to the fairground at Mockonema will be next Wednesday, July 14, beginning at 9 a.m. Catlow Movers of Spokane have prepared the 24 X 48 building, formerly known as the Jones School, for the move but decided to delay the operation until after the holiday traffic week.
The move will cover eight miles from east Dusty to the fairground at Mockonema. Eric Appel, head of the project, said he and other volunteers have constructed footings at the fairground for the building.
Motorists are advised the move is expected to restrict traffic. Appel said Catlow crews plan to use pullouts along the route to allow traffic vehicles behind the movers to pass and continue at normal speed.
The Dusty school building was constructed in 1895. Last school use of the building was in 1942.
Appel noted it will be displayed as "a work in progress" for this year’s edition of the fair.
