Auger accident at Ewan

Levi Johnstone, 27, Moscow, was taken by Rosalia ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane Monday afternoon after his lower right leg was severed in an elevator accident at Ewan, according to a report by Deputy Sgt. Rick McNannay. Johnstone had been working at the Whitgro Grain, Inc., elevator in Ewan.

McNannay said Johnstone and another employee were carrying a metal frame at about 3 p.m. when Johnstone stumbled. That caused him to step into a floor opening which housed an operating auger, and his right leg went into the mechanism.
