Twenty young women to compete in 53rd state event

Three seniors from Whitman County will be among the 20 entrants Saturday in the state Distinguished Young Women’s program, formerly Junor Miss, in the WSU Beasley Coliseum.

This will be the 53rd edition of the state event.

Emily Ledbetter of Colfax, Mikayla Nygreen of Colton/Uniontown and Emily Carlson joined other entrants from around the state Tuesday to prepare for the Saturday event which will begin at 7 p.m.

Mattie Bergeson of Moses Lake will conclude her year as Washington Junior Miss.

She placed in the top 10 in the national competition last June in Mobile, Ala.

Co-chairs of the program this year are Danielle Kallaher of Pullman and Margo Balzarini of Colfax.

Lynn Bruce of LaCrosse will be among the judges.

Admission to the state event will be $20 and tickets are available at Tickets West.
