Dance routines performed by local entrants

All three Whitman County entrants in the 53rd annual Washington Junior Miss competition performed dance routines for the talent segment of the competition Saturday at Beasley Coliseum in Pullman. At top from the left are Emily Ledbetter of Colfax dancing to "Bulletproof," Mikayla Nygreen of Colton/Uniontown tap dancing to "Chicago Overture" and Emily Carlson of Pullman dancing to "You Don't Know Me.”

The winner of the event, now Distinguished Young Woman, was Rianne Jones from Moses Lake who received applause from the 19 other contestants in the competition. She was presented the state medal by Mattie Bergeson, also of Moses Lake, who won the state competition at Pullman last year. Jones will compete in the national Distinguished Young Woman competition at Mobile next June. Nygreen won $200 scholarships in the physical fitness and self expression segments of the competition, and Carlson won a $200 preliminary scholarship award.
