Colfax football will launch again this year with a jamboree outing. The Bulldogs will be one of seven teams in the round-robin competition at the Broncos’ field in Ritzville Friday night.
The Broncos, Liberty, Davenport and Reardan will be other Bi-County teams in the scramble. Other invited guests will be Bridgeport and Newport.
Teams will be limited to 40 plays for the night.
Coach Mike Morgan said Colfax will take 30 players to the season’s first action. The Colfax football roster now is up to about 40, but the Bulldogs have players who have been in and out of practice sessions because of the late harvest season. Players are required to log 10 practices before they can play in a jamboree and 12 sessions before they can play a full game.
In some cases, the Bulldogs have had some players who were able to make some practice sessions and then depart again for another harvest assignment.
The Bulldogs will break into jayvee and varsity squads for the jamboree. The jayvees are scheduled to play Lind/Ritzville and Davenport. The varsity is expected to play Reardan, Newport and Davenport.
Because of the 40-play limit, Colfax will play just one side of the game, probably defense, against Reardan and Davenport. They are slated to play both offense and defense, 20 play, against Davenport, to finish off their 40 play limit.
The junior varsity lineup varies from the varsity because some of the entrants are not able to bring a JV team.
Colfax will make the trip to Lind/Ritzville after tonight’s “Meet the Bulldog” session at Schmuck Park.
League coaches for fall sports gathered Tuesday night at Davenport to iron out some of the plans for the upcoming season. Two coaches who will debut in the league this year were introduced.
Curtis Corvino, who took the head slot at Kettle Falls after Don Fox stepped aside, will be new to the league this year. Craig McIntyre, who played at West Valley and Eastern Washington, is the new head coach at Davenport.
