Opinion - The saga continues

The county financial books are a mess. At first, a cash shortage of around a half million dollars was reported. Now, it is said to be around two hundred thousand dollars.

Neither the commissioners, the auditor nor the treasurer has any clue what happened. Nor is anyone sure of the amount.

The shortage was discovered by an outside accountant hired by the county at no small expense to keep the financial operations functioning while the county tries to extricate itself from its financial quagmire.
