Colfax finally received a $116,000 check through the state Department of Transportation for reimbursement of costs involved with the Fairview and S. Main improvement project. City Treasurer Mark Clinton said the payment, which derives from American Recovery & Reinvestment (stimulus) funds has been in the works for nine months since the south hill job was completed here late last fall.
The city paid contractors on the project out of capital reserve funds which will be replenished with proceeds from the stimulus check. Clinton said a part of the reimbursement still remains unpaid. Additional funds, held back for retainage on the project, are expected to eventually come through the pipeline.
The project involved resurfacing of S. Main and Fairview. Initial plans for the job had to be reduced because of the fund limit and extra costs involved with upgrading intersections to meet handicap access requirements.
