Colfax volleyball players will depart for Spokane Friday to begin play in the giant cross-over tournament. Sixty-four teams will start in tournament action which begins with pool play and then sends teams to other sites, depending how they competed in their pool round.
Colfax Coach Sue Doering likes to enter the Bulldogs in the big event because it provides matches against tough competition. The Bulldogs get a lot of court tests over a short period of time with most of the foes coming from larger schools.
Reardan will be the only other league team in the crossover entry list.
Colfax will start pool play at Lewis & Clark. Friday night they will go up against Gonzaga Prep at 7:30 p.m. Saturday they will return to LC and play Eastmont of East Wenatchee at 9 a.m. and Skyview from the Vancouver area at 11 a.m.
Back in the lineup for the Bulldogs will be Sidney Huber who missed the last three weeks of play with back problems.
Colfax will go into the tourney with an 8-4 overall record. Saturday, they moved their league mark to 3-0 with a three-game sweep over the Liberty Lancers at Spangle. Score for each of the three games was 25-12.
Coach Doering followed her practice of calling out the reserves in the third game, but the Colfax bench still returned a game score of 25-12, the same result as the first two games.
Shaina Simonson and Nicole Sheer each had nine kills against the Lancers and Hannah Harazin had four to power the net game against the Lancers Saturday.
After the crossover, the Bulldogs will have another non-leaguer next Thursday when they travel to Newport to play the Grizzlies, one of the guests at the season opening jamboree. Their month-long road saga will end Oct.16 when they host Lind/Ritzville/Sprague in a return to league play.
