Tekoa/Oakesdale and Pomeroy added league wins to remain on top of the SE Eights volleyball campaign Tuesday when the league entered its second round of play. The two leaders stand at 7-1 with the Nighthawks traveling to Palouse and Pomeroy hosting Rosalia tonight.
TEKOA/OAKESDALE Tuesday stopped St. John/Endicott in four games with a strong net game.
Cassy Mendoza had 14 kills for the ‘hawks and Kaela Dewan put up four blocks. Dewan also had 24 assists and six digs.
Mandy Neill hit two aces.
Gretchen Van Lith had 19 digs and eight kills for the Eagles.
Line score for the Nighthawk win was 25-13 22-25 25-21 25-14.
The ‘hawks in the last Thursday round dropped winless Touchet in three straight, 25-15 25-14 and 25-5 with Mendoza putting down 10 kills and Dewan logging another 20 assists.
POMEROY Tuesday also won in four games on their home court against Colton. The Wildcats took the second game in extra points, but Pomeroy steadied up to take the match in the last two.
Line score was 25-23 24-26 25-20 and 25-18.
Melissa Bartlow booked nine kills and 17 assists for the Pomeroy win.
Mollie Kramer hit eight kills and three aces for Colton, and McKenzie Heaslet had three blocks. Mikayla Nygreen was credited with 12 assists.
The Pirates last Thursday defeated SJE in a three games at St. John 25-20 25-17 and 25-23. Van Lith had 8 kills for the Eagles, and Carmen Lust had 14 assists and three aces.
GARFIELD/PALOUSE moved up in the league standings Tuesday with a four-game win over the Tigercats at Washtucna, 25-21 25-13 23-25 25-23.
Cassie Thompson had nine kills for the Vikings and Kaycie Adair had five aces and seven digs. Holly Leendertsen was credited with 5 assists.
Logan Harder had 12 kills and seven digs for the Tigercats, and Annie Fleming had 18 assists and five aces.
Rosalia Tuesday defeated Touchet in a five game seesaw battle, 25-19 18-25 25-22 20-25 and 16-14. Briann Maley was credited with 17 kills and Lucy Irish had 17 assists and five aces.
LaCROSSE/WASHTUCNA roared off to a strong start last Thursday when they defeated the Spartans in a homecoming battle at Washtucna. The Spartans came back in the third game, but the Tigercats proved up with another big launch to take game four. Match line was 25-22 25-23 9-25 25-17.
Fleming had 8 kills and 10 aces for the Tigercats. Taylor Burke rapped nine aces at the Spartans.
Maley had nine kills for Rosalia, and Mackenzie Reddish had six aces.
COLTON, now third place in the standings, stopped Garfield/Palouse 25-12 25-18 and 25-17 in the other Thursday match with Kramer hitting eight kills and Haley Moser putting up nine assists.
