Nov. 2 election forums to be held in Colfax, Pullman

Candidate and initiative forums have been slated for Oct. 19 at the Whitman County Library in Colfax and Oct. 20 at Pullman City Hall. Both forums will be from 7 to 9 p.m.

The forums are arranged by the League of Women Voters. Whitman County Library, the Pullman Chamber of Commerce, the Whitman County Gazette, Daily News and Inland Northwest Broadcasting are sponsors.

Candidates will be at both forums and unopposed candidates have also been invited so residents can discuss the issues.

Local races feature the challenge filed by Glenn Stockwell against Joe Schmick for the postion 2 seat for district 9 in the legislature and the challenge filed by Esther Wilson against Eunice Coker for county auditor.

Discussion of ballot measures will be split between the two forum sites. Initiates 1107 (ending sales tax on candy and pop) Referendum 52 (bonds for energy projects), SJR 8225 (limit on state debt) and HJR 4220 (denying bail rights for potentially violent suspects) will be discussed at Colfax.

Initiatives 1053 (two-thirds legislative vote on tax hikes), 1082 (private industrial insurance) 1098 (state income tax) 1100 and 1105 (state liquor sales changes) will be in Pullman.

The forums will be broadcast live on KCLX 1450.
