Colfax finished 36th Saturday in the massive volleyball crossover tournament at Spokane. The Bulldogs finished a 1-2 in pool play Saturday morning at Lewis & Clark to qualify as a number three team. That sent them to Rogers High where the 16 number-three qualifiers battled for overall placing between 33 and 48.
Colfax won their first two matches at Rogers before they were stopped by Kamiakin.
“It was a good tournament for us. We had some good competition,” Coach Sue Doering noted.
The crossover has at least 25 of the 64 entrants from 4A schools. Colfax and Reardan were two of only three teams from 2B classification to play among some of the state’s power schools.
Friday night at Lewis & Clark, Colfax started with a loss to Gonzaga Prep, 11-25 and 19-25. They bounced back with a 25-15 and 26-24 win over Eastmont of East Wenatchee and then bowed to Skyview from Vancouver 14-25 and 20-25.
At Rogers, Colfax started with a win over the host Pirates, 25-18 and 27-25. They then took Newport with a deciding third game, 26-24 17-25 and 15-12.
Kamiakin and Colfax then battled into the third short game with the K club taking the win, 25-20 23-25 and 15-11.
Colfax finished out with a one-game loss to Tahoma, 24-26.
The Bulldogs today are scheduled to travel to Newport and face the same Grizzly team that took them into a deciding third game at Rogers.
Saturday, the Bulldogs will return to their home court after a month of matches and tourney play on the road. Guests will be the Lind/Ritzville/Sprague Bronco team.
The Bulldogs will have just one more home game date after that, Oct. 30 when they host Davenport and St. George’s.
