Treasurer resumes food drive

The counter space is filling up with cans of food at the county treasurer’s office, where staff are conducting their second annual food drive for the FISH Food pantry in Colfax.

Staff members are asking for non-perishable food items from people bringing in the second half of their tax payments to the county office at the courthouse.

"We’ll have several thousand people walk through the door," said County Treasurer Bob Lothspeich of the days before the Oct. 31 deadline for second half taxes.

The food drive last year raised 600 pounds of food and $500 in cash donations for Colfax’s food pantry. The pantry gives out food to those in need in the area.

Director Hannah Walker said the pantry is particularly low on supplies at the moment.

The pantry is searching for any non-perishable items of food, particularly food like peanut butter or tuna fish.

The food pantry is located at St. Patrick’s Catholic church in Colfax.

Food donations are passed out to the public through the downtown Community Action Center building. Families are given a set number of bags of food, covering the basic food groups. CAC also gives out other supplies, unrelated to the pantry.
