COLFAX – The Colfax Bulldogs are going to the state tournament.
Colfax defeated Upper Columbia Academy on Wednesday at home in four sets (25-20, 24-26, 25-17, 25-25-18).
"They just outplayed us in the second set," said Colfax Coach Brandy Brown. "Then we turned it around and started to execute our goals better and forced them to make mistakes."
The win puts them in the District 7 finals and means they are the top seed for the state tournament if they win. If they lose, they go to state in the number two spot representing the Northeast 2B League.
"It takes a little pressure off," said Brown. "It was a huge amount of pressure on our shoulders."
This is Brown's third year as the Bulldogs volleyball coach and the second time leading the team into the state playoffs. The team was seventh in the state tournament during her first year and last year there weren't state playoffs due to COVID.
They have made the district tournament every year.
In the game against Upper Columbia Academy, Justice Brown had 39 assists and 26 digs. Hailey Demler had 16 kills. Lauryn York had 9 kills, 14 digs, and 3 aces. Asher Cai had 8 kills and 16 digs. Abree Aune had 20 digs.
The Bulldogs take on Lind-Ritzville-Sprague on the road Thursday night at Liberty. The game starts at 7:30 p.m.
