Fete will honor Repps’ 70th vow date

A reception honoring Dave and Dorothy Repp for their 70th wedding anniversary will be at Peace Lutheran Church Sunday, Nov. 21, at 10 a.m. The Repps were married at the Coflax home of his parents, Peter and Anna Repp, by the Rev. Martin Keller of Peace Lutheran Church Nov. 9, 1940. Attendants were his sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Dr. Conrad Weitz Jr. Dave said he married Dorothy for her money; she had $12 and he was broke.

Repp and Dorothy Smith met at a dance in Wenatchee. Dave was working in the apple orchards. Dorothy had come to Wenatchee to help her older brother, Ace, and sister-in-law, Mildred. She was the only child among 12 born to Joseph and Ida Mae Smith of Hawk Springs, Wyo., to graduarte from high school. She is the last one living.

Dave was born in Endicott and attended the Thera School, then Martha Washington grade school in Colfax and Colfax High School where he graduated with the class of 1935.

Dave served in the Navy during World War II and participated in the Okinawa invasion.

He returned to Colfax and worked for S&S Grocery, Gretencort’s Clothing Store for 18 years, Standard Lumber, Neill Furniture and retired after 14 years as custodian for Colfax High School.

Dorothy worked at the Korner Koffee Kup, Spokane Seed, Dr.

Melvin Binder and retired from Jennings Elementary and Colfax High School after 29 years.

She was supervisor of the lunch program.

She was well known for her chili and cinnamon rolls.

One of her lunch room workers, Lyndell Mettler, became her daughter-in-law.

They have resided in Colfax for the last 70 years and have resided next to Dave’s brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Gloria Repp, for most of that time.

Their two sons and spouses are Dave, Jr. and Lyndell Repp, Colfax, and Gary and Sue Repp, Spokane. They have four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
