Veterans’ Day at Rosalia

Rosalia Chamber of commerce sponsored the Veterans Day Ceremony Nov. 11 at the Rosalia Veteran Memorial Park with approximately 100 people in attendance. Pat Voge emceed the event. Volunteers Ken and Veva Jean Hames and Bill and Alice Hofmann were thanked for their hours of work at the park and on Veterans projects.

The VFW Post 7815 Rifle Team provided the military volleys. Pastor Mike Cooper gave the invocation and presented insight into a returning Veteran's thoughts.

Rosalia Boy Scout troop under the leadership of Brad Hodges presented the flag ceremony. Voge announced that five Boy Scouts from this troop will receive the honored Eagle Scout Award this year. Mr. Szasz of Rosalia was thanked for his sacrifices as a former POW of WWII and Veteran.

Sgt. First Class Allen Ashworth, who recently returned from his tour of Afghanistan and now serves on the Washington State Veteran Cemetery Advisory Board, was the inspirational guest speaker reminding us of the need to show gratitude to service men and women and their families.

Julie Pittmann, state DAR chaplain and a member of the Ladies of the Washington State Veterans’ Cemetery, thanked the veterans and the volunteers for the Veteran Park. The DAR provided a patriotic wreath for the program. She then presented the State Veterans’ Day Proclamation to Pat on behalf of the Rosalia Chamber.

Rosalia fourth grade school chorus sang several patriotic songs, accompanied by Kim Mills. Lucas Engel, son of Mitch and Jennifer Engel concluded the program with a rendition of Taps.

Residents who wish to add a name on the Rosalia Lions Christmas Greeting board can reserve a space at US Bank. Cost is $5.
