Jerry L. Morton
A memorial service for Jerry L. Morton, 76, life-long Colfax resident, was Saturday morning, Dec. 4, at the Colfax Methodist Church with the Rev. Lynn Nelson officiating.
Mr. Morton died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane.
Born Nov. 4, 1934, in Colfax to Ralph and Marie Daubert Morton, he attended Colfax schools and was a member of the Colfax High School class of 1953. He attended Eastern Washington University in Cheney for a short time and then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a mechanic during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Colfax and began helping his father on the farm along the South Fork of the Palouse River. Jerry became fond of a certain waitress at the 195 Cafe in Colfax and often tipped $5 for a 10 cent cup of coffee. Jerry and the waitress, Sharon Anderson, were married in Colfax Dec. 28, 1960. Their 50th wedding anniversary would have been this month.
Following their marriage, they lived in Colfax for a few years and then moved to a place on Chicken Ranch Road east of Colfax while their kids were growing up. Jerry retired from farming 25 years ago, and they moved back into town. He kept busy maintaining their rental properties. He enjoyed going to early morning coffee sessions at 6:30 in the Hyde-Out. He also liked to play the lottery and visit casinos. Jerry was a member of the American Legion, the Eagles and the former Elks Lodge. He enjoyed wood-working, boating and loved farming.
Surviving are his wife, Sharon, at their Colfax home; two children, Steve (Tina) Morton of Colfax and daughter, Terry (Chris) Morton of Boise, three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Royce Morton.

John L. Anderson
A graveside service for John L. Anderson, 79, was conducted Wednesday in Spokane. Mr. Anderson died Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, at Spokane Hospice.
Born Nov. 30, 1930, to Pearl and Leona Williams Anderson at Rosalia, he started school at Rosalia and transferred to St. John when his family moved to Sunset.
John received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force after serving 18 years. While stationed in the Phillipines, he married Soledad Fernandez. This marriage ended in divorce and he later married Barbara Bentley. That marriage later ended in a legal separation.
John is survived by his sisters, Rosa Lea Johnson and Eleanor Ellis, all of Clarkston; and numerous nieces and nephews. Rose Makovec of Coeur d’Alene was his aunt.
Edna Chesnut
Edna Chesnut, 82, long-time resident of St. John, died Dec. l, 2010, in Spokane where she had made her home since April. In accordance with her request, a memorial service will not be conducted. A private family graveside service will be at the Colfax Cemetery.
Born in Cheney April 23, l928, she attended schools in Sprague and Cusick and was employed as a checker at Safeway in Spokane. She married Donald Chesnut June 30, l946. They resided in St. John where she was a homemaker and he was employed with the Whitman County Public Works department. Mr. Chesnut preceded her in death.
She lived in St. John for 66 years before moving to Spokane. She was a member of Spokane Falls Chapter AARP.
Survivors include her daughter, Melody of Spokane; a son, Mark (Karen) Chesnut of Pullman, a brother, Earl Leigh of Boulder City, Nev., and sisters: Alice Conrath of Post Falls, Peggy Carbah and Darlene Peterson, Spokane; two grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
Family members suggest memorials be donations to a local animal shelter.
Duane H. Cochrane
A memorial service for Duane H. Cochrane, 75, will be Saturday, Dec. 11, at 2:30 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene, Princeton, Idaho, with the Rev. Larry Veith and the Rev. Kathy Kramer officiating.
Potlatch Post VFW and a United States Army honor guard will participate. A potluck dinner will be served after the services at the Church. Mr. Cochrane died of cancer early Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, at his Potlatch home. He has been cremated and urn burial will follow at a later date.
Born June 21, 1935, at Moscow, Idaho, to Eugene and Edna Bunney Cochrane, he attended the Chambers Flat Country School and finished his education at the Potlatch Schools. He joined the U.S. Army Dec. 4, 1956, and served in Germany. He was discharged Nov. 18, 1959.
He married Mathilda (Tillie) Jacobson Sept. 1, 1962, at Fairview, Mont.
He worked in road construction and the couple moved around to many areas including Montana, Oregon, Washington and Idaho. In 1966, the couple made their home at Potlatch and he worked for Potlatch Forests, Inc., at the Potlatch mill. After the mill closed he worked at the Lewiston PFI mill. He also worked part-time for area farmers and drove a truck for Harley Drollinger’s Cement Company at Potlatch.
In 1986, he started working as a custodian at Washington State University in Pullman and retired in June of 2007 after 21 years of service.
He enjoyed hunting and four wheeling. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Potlatch. Duane was a volunteer with the Idaho Food Pantry as well as a former volunteer of the Potlatch Fire and Ambulance for several years.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years Mathilda (Tillie) Cochrane, at the Potlatch home; one son, Kevin (Sandy) Cochrane; one daughter, Brenda (Lamont) Bartlett, all of Potlatch; two brothers, Marlyn (Virginia) Cochrane, St. Maries, and Charles Cochrane, Princeton; one sister-in-law, Joan Cochrane of Potlatch; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Donald S. Henley
Donald Shell Henley 79, former resident of Hay, died Nov. 27, 2010, in Santa Rosa, Calif. A family memorial service was at the ranch near Hay.
Born in Hay to John Sr. and Dorothy Henley on June 19, 1931, Donald grew up on the farm and graduated from Hay High School in 1950.
Mr. Henley joined the U. S. Navy during the Korean War and served on the aircraft carrier Bon Homme Richard.
After an honorable discharge he returned to the area and worked for several years. He moved with his family to Pendleton, Ore., in the 1970s and worked for Dobyns-Hart Pest Control until his retirement. Don served in the National Guard reserves and attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
He enjoyed hunting in the Blue Mountains and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; son, Richard (Rebecca); brother, Frank Henley; sisters, Berda Endsley Boggs, and Grace Rudolph, and three grandchildren.
Nathan N. Larson
A mass of Christian burial for Nathan N. Larson, 29, was Tuesday morning, Dec. 7, at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Moscow. Father Caleb Vogel officiated. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery in Rockford. Larson died Friday afternoon, Dec. 3, in an automobile accident on Highway 95 north of Moscow.
Born July 17, 1981, at Spokane, to Vernon and Juanita Wilder Larson, he was raised and schooled at his family home south of Tensed, Idaho. Following high school graduaton in 1999, he attended the University of Idaho in Moscow where he studied computer science and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 2007. Nathan had also studied in Jordan and Dubai in the Middle East.
Nathan was currently working as project estimator for Accelerated Construction Company in Plummer, Idaho.
He was a member of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Moscow and the Moscow–Pullman Toastmas-ter’s Club. Nathan was single.
Survivors include his parents at DeSmet, Idaho; two brothers, Joshua and Caleb Larson, both of Moscow; two sisters, Charity Larson of Indianapolis, Ind., and Anna Larson of DeSmet, and his grandmother Rosella Wilder of Camas.
Memorial gifts may be given to St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Moscow.
June Lyon
A memorial service, celebrating the life of June E. Lyon, 87, a lifelong Pullman resident will be Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church of Pullman.
She died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at Glenhaven Adult Family Home in Pullman.
Born June 28, 1923, to Fred and Rena Hedglen Jennings in Pullman at the Jennings home, she grew up in Pullman and attended Staley School, Johnson School and later Pullman High School.
After she graduated, she attended Washington State College. She married Robert H. Lyon in Pullman June 18, 1941, and they spent their entire lives together operating the family farm on Weber Road.
She was a loving homemaker, wife and mother; devoted to raising her family. June spent her entire married life at the family home on Weber Road until she moved to Glenhaven. She was an avid gardener, loved flowers, British history and reading.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1997.
Surviving are her son Dale (Kathie) Lyon of Pullman; her daughter Linda Petersen, of Spokane; sister, Freda Semingson and brother Ralph Jennings, both of Pullman; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Sally Jo Maley
A graveside service for Sally Jo Maley, 70, Rosalia area farm wife, was Friday, Dec. 3, at the Rosalia IOOF Cemetery followed by a memorial service at the Rosalia United Methodist Church. A luncheon followed at the Rosalia School old gym.
She died Nov. 28, 2010, in Spokane.
Born Aug. 10, 1940, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, to Frank and Marguerite Kliewer, her parents died when she was 14 and she was taken in by Bob and Kay Spilker. She graduated from Rosalia High School with the class of 1958.
She became a farm wife later that fall when she married Robert Maley Oct. 5, 1958. Sally worked with her husband on the farm driving a truck at harvest and raising their three boys. She enjoyed the annual Fourth of July outing to Priest Lake and was very involved in local sports by keeping statistics for Little League and attending grandchildren’s sporting events. She also served on the Rosalia School Board for many years and owned and operated Rosalia Floral Shop for eight years.
Surviving are her husband, Robert, at the home; sons, Graig (Shawnda) Maley of Thornton; Brad (Kris) Maley of Rosalia and Brian (Nicole) Maley of Ranier, and eight grandchildren.

Pamela Morrison
Funeral services for Pamela Marie Morrison, 59, former Colfax resident, will be today, Thursday, Dec. 9, at 1 p.m. in the Riverside chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at Chattaroy with Bishop Byron Wiltse conducting.
Interment was Wednesday, Dec. 8, at the Freeze Cemetery at Potlatch. She died last Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, after a long illness.
Born July 9, 1951, in Provo, Utah, she was raised in Springville and the surrounding areas of Utah. She married Raymond Morrison, Feb. 17, 1967, in Provo. Over their 43 years of marriage, they resided in the San Francisco Bay area; Maple Valley, Wash .; Potlatch; Spokane; Colfax, and Deer Park.
She enjoyed service to others, and traveling, especially to the Pacific Coast. She also loved the outdoors, camping, RVing and exploring the mountains with her husband. She was very strong in her faith and served numerous callings in the LDS Church. They were members of the church at Colfax while they resided here when he was a clerk at the post office.
Survivors in addition to her husband are children, Michele Andersen, Old Town, Idaho; Randal Morrison, Vancouver, and Julie Morrison, Lewiston; brothers, Kelly Sorenson, Collegeville, Pa., and Keven Harward, Phoenix, Ariz .; sisters, Valerie Anderson and Debra Gomez, Salt Lake City, Utah, and five grandchildren.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to the ALS Association.
