Colton Christmas crafts
Colton Library storytime sessions will focus on Christmas for the rest of December with crafts, stories and snacks for the season. Storytimes are at 10:30 a.m. every Monday for children ages one to six.
Third Thursday at the Colton Library Dec. 16 will be a Christmas craft, worksheets, books and a snack. Children from kindergarten to sixth grade are welcome at 3:15 p.m.
The 2011 Barns of Whitman County calendars are now available at all Whitman County Libraries for $5 each. The calendars have scenic photos of various barns throughout Whitman County.
Reception will launch Dahmen Barn exhibit
“Over the River” exhibit will open with a reception Sunday, Dec. 12, at the Dahmen Barn from 1 to 4 p.m. in Uniontown. The artists will be present and refreshments will be served. Artists from the Salmon River to the Mountains of Idaho along with resident Artisans at the Dahmen Barn are exhibiting 2-D and 3-D work, most of which has a winter theme. The exhibit will run through Dec. 31. Oil, scratchboard, pastel, wood, glass, wearable art, photography, textile, and pottery will be on display. New resident artists Margo Kay from Lenore, Idaho and Judy LaLonde from Troy, Idaho will exhibit items created from fiber from their home grown sheep and alpacas.
In addition to the resident artists, Junette Dahmen from Uniontown, Gloria Teats from Whitebird, Barney Saneholtz from Pullman, Andy Sewell from Viola, William Voxman from Moscow, Alison Meyer from Worley and Judith Marvin of Kendrick will exhibit their creations.
Organists to perform
David Buckley of Colfax will be among three organists who will perform next Wednesday, Dec. 15, at 12:15 p.m. at Moscow’s First Presbyterian Church, 405 South Van Buren St. The concert will be the second of this year’s noontime Advent Organ Recitals sponsored by the Pullman-Moscow Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. Susan Billin of First Presbyterian in Moscow and Judy Croskey of Nativity Episcopal in Lewiston will also perform works from the Advent and Christmas organ repertoire.
Admission is free, but donations will support of the work of the guild chapter.
Clubs & Youth Groups
Athenaeum Club NewsThe annual Christmas luncheon was Dec. 3 at the Methodist Church hosted by the Yearbook Committee. The festivities began with greetings from President Mae Schultz who welcomed the 24 attending and asked Marilyn Harder to offer grace. A delicious meal, catered by the United Methodist Women, followed.
Lois Scholz and Mary Ann Mitchell regaled the group with current events. A program on poinsettias was given by Cherry Alice Van Tine. The event was concluded after sampling home-made candy served by the committee.
On Campus
ARTWSU will present a world-class exhibition, “Contemporary Australian Aboriginal Art: from the Collection of Margaret Levi and Robert Kaplan, until Dec. 11.
The Levi-Kaplan Collection was built over many years of extensive travel and study. The collectors have sought out the best work by Aboriginal artists to reveal the diversity, creativity and aesthetic power of one of the most exciting art movements in the world today.
Gallery hours are Monday – Saturday, 10 to 4 p.m. (open until 7 p.m. on Thursdays).

Children in grades 1-4 are invited to the library’s Third Thursday Club on Dec. 16 from 3:30 – 4:30. Participants will enjoy crafts, stories, games and snacks. Children can ride bus #5 from JES to the library with a note from parent.
Preschoolers are invited to educational classes each Thursday in the Colfax Library with Baby time programs at 10:10, Toddler Time at 10:30 and Preschool Time at 11:00. Everyone is welcomed!
Parents, grandparents and caregivers are invited to bring children for Friday’s Play and Learn group at the Colfax Library. This is an open play group from 10 to 11:30 am.
Additional programs coming in December include a Wii program for youngsters and an INBC Blood Drive. Check the library’s events calendar at http://www.whitco.lib.wa.us for a complete listing of events and programs.
The library is offering two cookbooks, “More Friends Recipes” for $10 and “Recipes from Friends” for $5. If you purchase both cookbooks, you will receive a free Book bag courtesy of the Friends of Whitman County Library.
Barn Calendars are currently available throughout Whitman County library branches, Ace Hardware and Rosauers in Colfax and The Pullman Chamber of Commerce.
The library has added new holiday titles that will help bring comfort and joy to readers whether it be mystery, “A Christmas Odyssey” by Anne Perry or inspirational, “Call Me Mrs. Miracle” by Debbie Macomber.
