Award winners at the Colfax volleyball banquet, from the left, were Christa Nyholm, Brooke Webber, Maggee Cochran, Amelie Bruya, Nicole Sheer, Sidney Huber and Shaina Simonson. Four senior captains were honored last Thursday when the Colfax volleyball team wrapped up its season with a banquet in the high school cafeteria. Concluding their V-net careers were Maggee Cochran, Brooke Webber, Christa Nyholm, and Shaina Simonson, four seniors who shared the captain’s assignment over the year.
Coach Sue Doering credited members of this year’s team with working hard and sticking together. The Bulldogs finished up the year with the third place trophy after making a run at a seventh straight state championship. That bid ended at the semi-final round after a five-game battle with LaConner.
Doering noted the final wrap on the season was a little bittersweet because Reardan, a team Colfax stopped at the district level, wound up with the state cup.
“I figured we had a shot at it,” she said.
The coach also said the number-three finish was a solid accomplishment for this year’s young Colfax team.
The four seniors received captain’s awards.
Sophomore Amelie Bruya, who booked 47 assists in that semi-final and finished the state run with a 66-72 serving mark and eight aces, was named most valuable player.
Nicole Sheer, freshman hitter, was named most improved, and Christa Nyholm, team libero, named inspirational. The awards were decided on a team vote.
Sidney Huber, a sophomore who had her season cut short by back problems but remained with the team in a support role, was named for the coaches’ award.
Captains for next year will be Lauren Moore, Hannah Harazin, juniors, and Bruya.
Juniors receiving letters awards were Harazin, Moore, Misty Skelton, and Becca Hardie.
Sophomore letter winners were Bruya, Huber, Taylor Lange, and Rachel Robinson.

Junior Varisty Coach Shawna Kneale presented awards to Amanda Drewer, Paige Mackleit, Katherine MacDonald, Cassie Vorderbrueggen, Emma Klaveano, Bailey Mackleit, Leah Heiner, and Kasey Cloaninger.
Paige Mackleit and Vorderbrueggen were named co-captians; Drewer and MacDonald shared the jayvee inspiratonal award; Vorderbrueggen was named most improved and Heiner was deemed the hardest worker on the team.
C-squad Coach Jill Solbrack presented team awards to Heather Robinson, Ali Shirley, Brynn Buck, Karlie Thompson, Scoops Hahn, Emma Gingerich, Cacey Hall, Kirbee Barney, Kat Lyle, Denver Campbell, Brooke Davis and Taylor Cai.
