Girls teams in the Whitman League cranked up the season with a wide variety of foes and game sites in the first week.
Colton girls, the defending 1B champs, Tuesday charged in the last quarter at Grangeville but came up short. The 2A Idaho hosts took a 50-46 win in the close battle. They led the Wildcats 37-30 going into the last quarter.
Kaitlin Druffel, who hit four three-pointers, led the Wildcats with 13 points and McKenzie Heaslet finished with 12.
St. John/Endicott girls Tuesday pegged a 62-44 win over Davenport with Erin Schuster hitting 15 points, and Ali Winters hitting 14.
Garfield/Palouse girls, after defeating LaCrosse/Washtucna in a non-leaguer in the Friday opener, dropped a 41-48 decision to Lakeside of Plummer. The Idaho club had a four-point lead at the half and out-paced the Vikings in the last quarter at Garfield.
Freshman Taylor Redman led the Vikings with 14 against Plummer, and Kaycie Adair hit 11.
Friday at Palouse, Redman hit 17 and Adair hit 10 when the Vikings dropped the LW Tigercats 34-21. Logan Harder hit 7 for the Tigercats.
Rosalia girls Saturday advanced their record to 2-0 with a 53-45 win at Wellpinit. Briann Maley hit 24 beans to lead the Spartans who charged for 18 points in the first quarter.
Maley hit 17 Friday night when the Spartans nipped Liberty 58-55 at Spangle. Taylor Nelson hit 12.
LaCrosse/Washtucna girls dropped to 0-3 in the Tuesday round with a one point loss, 34-35, to Tri-Cities Prep at Washtucna.
The Jags came to life for 11 points in the last quarter to book the win.
Logan Harder and Anne Fleming each hit eight to lead the Tigercats in the low scoring game.
