Darwin Earl Maston

A funeral service for Darwin Earl Maston, 76, a lifelong Johnson resident, will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, at Kimball Funeral Home with burial to follow at the Pullman Cemetery.

The viewing will be Thursday at Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman from noon to 5 p.m.

He died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at his home in Johnson.

Born Sept. 7, 1934, in Pullman to Earl and Bernice Hatley Maston, he moved with his family to Johnson when he was four years old. He attended the Johnson School and Colton School and he graduated from Colton High School.

In 1957 Darwin went to work for the City of Pullman as a maintenance worker. Throughout his 39 years with the city, Darwin was involved in many areas of city maintenance and at the time of his retirement in 1996 was a part of the Water Maintenance Operations for the city. During his time with the city Darwin set a very active pace sharing with the City and all of his Teamster co-workers, his skill and knowledge.

He enjoyed hunting for nearly 30 years and kept busy with metal detecting, gold-digging, all kinds of fishing, traveling especially in Montana, Canada and throughout Washington State, and hitting all the area yard sales.

He enjoyed motorcycling in his younger days and in later years enjoyed watching his nieces’ and nephews’ interest in motorcycling.

Darwin was a member of the National Rifle Association and different Gold Panning Associations. He always enjoyed a good discussion with friends at McDonalds.

Surviving are his brother, Bill (Florence) Maston of Johnson; a nephew, Robert Maston of Uniontown; a niece, Darlene Hilkin of Moscow, and one great-niece.

The family suggests memorials go to the Humane Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

George Litzenberger

George Lizenberger died Dec. 10, 2010. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Born to Elsie and Edmund Litzenberger on a Union Flat area ranch Feb. 22, 1924, he grew up in Endicott and graduated from Endicott High School in 1942. He joined the US Coast Guard and served on the Cutter Mackinaw on the Great Lakes. After the Coast Guard he joined the Merchant Marines where he had the opportunity to explore more of the world.

He married Kathryn Thomas in 1954. They raised their three children in Seattle while he worked for the Post Office. George and Kathryn divorced in 1979 but remained close friends. After retiring from the post office he moved back to Endicott to care for his father during his last years. George spent the last 27 years residing in the Cascade Mobile Home Park in Spokane. Through he had many interests, he derived the greatest satisfaction by helping others and being a very loyal friend.

George is survived by his ex-wife, Kathryn, and their three children, Karla Litzenberger of Seattle; Tom Litzenberger of Spokane, and John Litzenberger of Port Townsend, and seven grandchildren.

The family suggests that any gifts be made to Hospice of Spokane, P.O. Box 2215, Spokane, WA 99210. Hospice helped George with his final months.
