Sports nominees include area athletes

Colfax senior Alex Teade, who was part of Colfax trophy runs last year as a junior in football, basketball and baseball, and Kayla Johnson, who landed the state hoops MVP for the second year in a row and was a member of the first-place Bulldog teams in volleyball and basketball, are among Inland Empire nominees for the Northwest Youth Awards. Johnson is now playing for Whitworth in Spokane.

Colfax and Colton basketball girls’ teams have both been nominated for the team of the year honor, and Coach Corey Baerlocher of Colfax has been nominated for coach of the year. Colfax grad Dave Weitz, head of the Pullman 2A volleyball champions, has also been nominated for coach of the year.

The banquet will be Feb. 16 in the Spokane Convention Center ballroom.
