Bulldog girls hammer wins in league rounds

Nicole Sheer (20) and Shaina Simonson of the Bulldogs battle for board position between Marci Stutes and Taylor Smith (25) of the Chargers in the Friday game at Colfax.

Colfax girls, now number-two in the Bi-County league, will head for Ritzville Friday night to play the Broncos as teams approach the halfway mark. The Bulldog girls are now 4-1 in the league after two power wins last weekend, a 61-16 crush job over Mary Walker of Springdale on the home court Friday and a 41-21 win in a short road trip to Liberty Saturday.

Reardan’s girls, who finished out weekend play with a 57-17 win over St. George’s, moved their league leading record to 7-0. St. George’s will play at Colfax Saturday.

In the home game Friday, the Bulldog girls posted a 43-8 lead over the Chargers in the first half and allowed the guests just another eight points over the next two quarters.

Amelie Bruya led Colfax with 17 points. She hit five three-point shots against the Chargers.

The Chargers had trouble getting the ball down court against the Colfax defense which stacked 27 steals on the night. Colfax guard Misty Skelton was credited with seven of the steals.

Shaina Simonson pulled down nine rebounds and added 11 points.

Springdale shot just 22 percent against the Bulldogs with Alicia Morrell topping the team with six points.

At Liberty Saturday night, Colfax continued to put on the defensive pressure with another 27 steals for a big factor in the 47-21 win. The Bulldogs shut out Liberty in the third quarter after posting a 12-point lead at the half.

Bruya again led Colfax scoring, this time with nine beans.

Liberty fell to 1-5 after the Saturday round.

The Broncos Friday will host Colfax after sustaining a 48-53 loss to Northwest Christian.

After hosting St. George’s on Saturday, the Bulldogs will host Northwest Christian Tuesday to wrap up the first round of league play.
