Three Colfax wrestlers placed at the Warden invitational Saturday. Cody Evans placed fourth in the 125 class, Kevin Nellis placed fifth in the 160 class and Justin King place sixth in the 171 class.
Coach Dennis Gransbery said the next stop for the Colfax grapplers will be the Orofino tournament this weekend.
At Warden Saturday, Evans placed fourth in the 125 class after scoring two pins but losing twice to Tonasket’s Enrique Ortega. He was pinned by Ortega in the third round of their first match. In the third-fourth consolation finals, Ortega won 4-2.
Evans pinned JD Gallegos of Kittitas in the second round and Carlos Gomez of Warden, also in the second round.
Nellis placed fifth in the 160 class with a 1-2 record for the day. He lost on a tech fall to Manny Rubio of Brewster and was pinned by a Warden foe in the second round. His win was a tech fall in the third round over Tristan Algen of Kittitas.
King placed sixth in the 171 class after he forfeited out of the fifth-sixth consolation final because of a rib injury. He defeated John Pruneda of Warden, but sustained losses on pins to Ryan Heinan of Connell, third round, and Sterinie Shepard of Lake Roosevelt, second round.
Evan Lord was pinned by John Mendez of Connell in the second round and Rudy Martinez of Warden in the first round.
Ben Cochran and Daniel Kuhlmann were unable to make the trip to Warden because of illness.
Eagles at DavenportSt. John/Endicott wrestlers are scheduled to compete tonight, Thursday, at Davenport for their first outing since the Dec. 21 matches at Colfax. The Eagles were unsuccessful in their attempts to make the lineup at Warden last weekend after they were snowed out of the Pomeroy tournament Dec. 29.
