Colton wins early showdown to keep SE run in high gear

Colton girls stormed past Rosalia and St. John/Endicott in road games over the weekend to roost in an exclusive top slot in the SE league race. Now 6-0 in the league race, the Wildcats will host Garfield/Palouse Friday night to complete the first round

St. John/Endicott hosted the Wildcat hoop machine Saturday after defeating LaCrosse 48-17 Friday to move their record to 9-0.

Rosalia also finished with a split on the weekends when they came back Saturday to drop Garfield/Palouse 39-22.

COLTON cooked a 25-10 lead in the first quarter of the showdown of league undefeateds Saturday night at St. John. The Wildcats finished with a 64-24 crunch in a balanced scoring attack topped by 12 points from Haley Moser.

McKenzie Heaslet hit 11 points and Mollie Kramer led a strong night on the boards with 11 rebounds. Grace Druffel was credited with solid defense on Eagle ace Alli Winters who still managed to lead the Eagles with seven.

Friday night at Rosalia the Wildcats downed the Spartans 63-29 with Kramer hitting 14. The Wildcats had a 34-11 lead at the break.

Tuesday, Colton dominated Asotin 50-31 in a non-league battle with Heaslet booking 15. The ‘cats posted a 21-6 lead after the first quarter.

ST. JOHN/ENDICOTT started the weekend with a 48-17 win over LaCrosse/Washtucna with Alli Winters hitting 16 and Emily Kucklich 10.

Tuesday in a non-leaguer, the Eagles hosted Odessa/Harrington and posted a 68-43 win. Winters hit a league high 35 with nine three pointers against the guests.

POMEROY also booked two wins on the weekend to remain in a tie with the Eagles for second place. The Bucs Saturday night dropped Touchet 56-35, and Friday they battled past Tekoa/Oakesdale 44-31 at Oakesdale.

Tekoa/Oakesdale had a 21-15 lead at the break, but the Pirates came out and used a press defense for a 16-2 crunch in the third quarter to take control. Karlie Martin led Pomeroy with 15, and Alexandria Overton lead the ‘hawks with 12.

Rosalia Saturday bounced back for a 39-22 win over the GP Vikings in a battle of the defenses at Palouse. The Vikings led 12-10 at the break, but the Spartans shook it off with 13 points in the third quarter.

Briann Maley hit 20 as the Spartans moved to 3-3 in league play.

GARFIELD/PALOUSE Friday dropped Touchet 45-33 on their way to a split on the weekend. The Vikings were led by Kaycie Adair who hit 24 points. Viking defense limited the chiefs to just eight points in the middle two quarters on their home court.

TEKOA/OAKESDALE also finished with a split on the league weekend with a 55-18 win over the Tigercats at Tekoa Saturday with Alexandria Overton hitting 25 points in the league round which saw the `hawks lead 28-11 at the half.

The `hawks Tuesday defeated Dayton 60-39 in a non-leaguer at Oakesdale with Overton hitting another 25 for a two-game run of 50. Kayler Dub hit 16.
