Serving Whitman County since 1877
Starting this year, Medicare Part B beneficiaries can get free physical examinations. This benefit is part of the new Affordable Care Act. The goal is to focus on preventive care, rather than trying to fix problems after they arise.
During the exam your physician will ask about your medical history and check items such as your blood pressure, vision, weight and height. The doctor will do some basic lab tests and ask about your life-style habits.
The doctor will schedule you for any preventive screening procedures you may need such as a mammogram or colonoscopy. These are free under the new benefit too. You’ll also be able to discuss ongoing health issues and advance directives.
This may include stating your preferences regarding whether you want to be on breathing machines or to be resuscitated if your heart stops. These directives also cover organ and tissue donations.
Contact your doctor to schedule a free Medicare physical exam.
