Colfax girls got off to a fast start Tuesday night on their home court to defeat Northwest Christian 46-39. The Bulldogs moved out to a 10-2 lead after the first quarter and managed to maintain the gap most of the way.
The Tuesday win finished a 2-1 run for the Bulldog girls who are now 6-2 in the league race. They also hit the .500 mark for the overall season at 6-6 . The 6-2 puts Colfax in the number-two slot in the league race behind Reardan’s power team which hit 9-0 Saturday with a 40-point win over the Davenport Gorillas.
Rachel Robinson of the Bulldogs goes for the hoop against Breanna Russell and Hannah Kwasman of the Dragons in the Saturday night game at Colfax.
The win over the Crusaders Tuesday came after Colfax posted a big 42-15 crunch over St. George’s Dragons on the home court Saturday.
Friday at Ritzville, the Bulldog girls sustained a 35-40 loss night to the Broncos.
In the Tuesday win over NWC, the 10-2 opening charge was led by two three-point shots by Amelie Bruya. She finished with eight points in the quarter and 15 on the night.
Colfax shooting moved over the 30 percent mark against the Crusaders at 17-55.
Coach Corey Baerlocher said the Bulldogs shooting needs to get better. Colfax hit just 26 percent against the Dragons Saturday and just under that mark in taking the loss at Ritzville Friday.
“We just need to improve. We’re not going to stop putting it up there,” Baerlocher commented after Tuesday’s round against the Crusaders.
The coach credited Raven Elkins with a strong game off the bench. Elkins finished with 12 boards against the Crusaders. She played a big role in sustaining the lead after Shaina Simonson and Hannah Harazin got into early foul trouble.
Harazin came back for a strong finish in the second half, and Brooke Webber had a strong night with eight points.
Misty Skelton led the floor game with five of the 13 steals.
Against St. George’s Saturday, Bruya stacked 14 points. She finished with three three-point shots.
Simonson had a strong inside game with 11 beans and pulled down six rebounds. Nicole Sheer totaled 11 boards for Colfax.
At Ritzville Friday, the Bulldogs battled to a 16-13 lead after shutting out the Broncos’ scoring in the second quarter. The LRS team hit 18 points in the last quarter to bail out the win.
Colfax shot 14-55, a mark which erased a defensive performance which nipped 39 turnovers off the Broncos.
Skelton scored 11 points for Colfax and had nine of the steals. Simonson had 10 rebounds and Sheer had seven.
