EWU Seniors Matt Martin of LaCrosse and J.C. Sherritt of Pullman are among 52 winners of the 13th annual Academic All-Star Team selected by the Athletics Directors of the Football Championship Subdivision.
Sherritt, a 2006 graduate of Pullman High, was also announced winner of the Buck Buchanan Award given to the top defensive player in FCS. The award, now in its 16th year, is selected by sportswriters, broadcasters and sports information directors from throughout the country.
The awards were announced before the Eagles Friday won the FCS championship with a 20-19 comeback win over the Delaware Blue Hens in Frisco, Texas.
A 2006 graduate of La Crosse-Washtucna High School, Martin has a 3.76 grade point average as a double major in communications and finance.
Sherritt is a health and fitness major with a 3.46 GPA.
Both players will be selected to the Big Sky All-Academic team for the fourth time when that squad is announced later in January.
Martin is the only senior to have played in all 50 games for the Eagles in the past four seasons. Sherritt was EWU’s leading tackler with 158 before the title game.
