Patchen’s monster week leads Colton to two SE league wins

Colton big man Dustin Patchen stuffed the stat sheets over the weekend, leading his Wildcats to two SE League wins and solidifying their place in the two slot in league standings.

Including a 40 point binge against Asotin Jan. 11, the 6-foot-6 center averaged 28 points, 14 rebounds and nine-plus blocks in his last three games.

“He’s really playing out of his mind,” said Colton Coach Seth Payne. “Dustin made my job pretty easy this past week.”

Patchen finished his strong week Saturday by accounting for nearly half of the Wildcat total scoring attack in a 48-36 win at Pomeroy. The junior posted 22 points and 13 rebounds against the Pirates as Pomeroy put him on the free throw line all night. Colton went to the stripe 27 times and hit 16; the Bucs had just three shots and miss all of them.

Colton point guard Josh Straughan added 10 points and eight assists. Justin Ruark posted 12 to lead Pomeroy.

Friday, Patchen put up 23 for the ‘cats in a 56-45 home win over Garfield/Palouse. The big man also created nightmares for the Vikings in the paint, swatting away 12 shots and reeling in 14 rebounds. Straughan added 12 clicks for the ‘cats.

First-place Rosalia’s oppressive defense held the solid Touchet attack in check all night Saturday as the Spartans posted a 52-27 road win. Held in check by Rosalia defenders, the Indians only put seven points on the board by half time.

Nathan Richards had 11 points to top Rosalia, which ended up with 11 players hitting the scorebook. Touchet was paced by the ten points of Matt Hines.

The Spartan offense did the heavy lifting Friday in a 72-40 home win over LaCrosse/Washtucna. Rosalia used a balanced inside-out attack to put up 44 in the first half. Guard Flash Hodges led the way with 18 points, while Casey Brown added 17 and Nathan Richards 16. Chris Wargo topped the Tigercats with 16, and Jeff Zimmer tallied 14.

St. John/Endicott went two-for-two in league play over the weekend to pull into a third place tie with Garfield/Palouse.

The Eagles put Saturday night’s game away early, giving up only four first quarter points to Tekoa/Oakesdale on the way to a 55-38 win in the Oakesdale gym. Cole McCanna led 11 SJE scorers with 13, and Joey Kucklick added 12. Earl Gaines’ 10 points were best for the Nighthawks.

Friday night, the Eagles waited until the second half to dispose of visiting Pomeroy in a 63-51 win. Deadlocked at intermission, SJE pulled away in the third quarter and refused to let the Pirates back in the game.

Cole McCanna and Mason Van Lith put up 19 points each and Kaleb Simon chipped in 10. Mitch Ruchert had 15 points to pace Pomeroy.

Garfield/Palouse put up a 54-37 win over visiting LaCrosse/Washtucna Saturday night. Blake Slocum topped four GP double-digit scorers with 14. Jeff Zimmer posted 15 points for the ‘cats.

Tuesday, GP fell 52-66 to Lakeside in a road game at Plummer. After a tough back-and-forth game through three frames, the Vikings were sunk by a 23-10 Lakeside fourth quarter. J.B. Lange put up 13 points and Nathan Cocking added 12 to top the Vikes. Jaime Flemming had 18 points and Nate Weaselhead added 16 for Lakeside.

Tekoa/Oakesdale used a fourth quarter scoring binge to put down host Touchet 57-49 Friday night. The Nighthawks trailed by six, 32-38 after three, but found their stroke when the fourth quarter whistle blew, putting 25 points on the board.

Max Mueller led the way for TO with 22 points. Joseph Tampien threw down another 14. Jake Hodenfield had 20 to lead Touchet.

Tuesday night, Stephen Brent hit 32 points to lead Potlatch to a 71-57 non-league win at Tekoa. The Nighthawk long game closed a 14-point deficit after the first frame, but the Loggers clamped down in the fourth quarter.

Joseph Tampien had 17 points, including three long balls, and Lance Lindgren posted 12 points on 4-of-4 from long range.

Touchet traveled to Liberty Christian Tuesday night where the Indians fell behind early and never recovered in a 65-40 loss to the 2B Patriots.
