Bulldog boys cement second; target NWC string on road

Alex Teade makes an escape out of the corner in front of Brent Stromberger of the Broncos in the Friday game.

Colfax boys rolled to a 65-46 win over visiting Reardan Tuesday night for their third straight power win on a four-game home stand. Led again by sophomore Brandon Gfeller, this time with 20, the Bulldogs led 37-16 after the half and at one point led by 26 points.

The win over the chiefs left Colfax with a 10-1 mark in the league for a solid hold on second place. They will host Davenport Friday and then go to Colbert and attempt to put a dent in Northwest Christian’s undefeated string. The Crusaders moved to 12-0 in the Tuesday round with a big win over St. George’s.

Reardan traveled to Colfax Tuesday with a 7-3 record after taking a second-round loss to NWC in the Saturday round. Tuesday’s loss at Colfax dropped the chiefs to 7-4, three games back of the Bulldogs.

Colfax booked a solid 44-plus shooting percent against Reardan Tuesday. They also out-boarded the guests 40-23 with Justin Berarducci pulling down eight and Alex Teade seven.

Saturday, the Bulldogs shot 66 percent from the field for a 70-25 win over the young Kettle Falls team which is still searching for a league win after 10 defeats.

Berarducci, who returned to the lineup Friday after being out with a foot injury since the Christmas break, topped the team with 18 against the K-dogs Saturday.

Kettle marked a re-entry into the Colfax gym after dropping down to the 2B ranks this year.

Colfax defeated Lind/Ritzville/Sprague 62-30 Friday. The Bulldogs led the Broncos 19-10 after the first quarter and built on that lead through the game.

Gfeller hit 80 percent, four of five, from outside the three-point arch and finished with 21. Kyle Johnson finished with 15 after posting a strong half against the Broncs.

Colfax again posted a rebound edge, 35-29, with Gfeller snagging seven.
