Reardan league leaders escape Colfax with one-point zinger

Colfax senior Shaina Simonson drives for the hoop against Brittany Ste. Marie of Lind/Ritzville/Sprague in the Friday game at Colfax.

Reardan’s girls escaped Colfax Tuesday night with a one point win to keep their league leading win streak alive. The Indians, who battled for the comeback win in the fourth quarter, scored the final six seconds to regain the lead and take the 43-42 win.

Coach Ed Shields and crew took the win at Colfax with scoring leader Kelsey Moos out of the lineup. Moos hit 18 against the Bulldogs when Reardan stacked a 51-32 win over the Bulldogs in the first round at Reardan.

Tuesday at Colfax, Liz Flowers glided to a lay-up to get the one-point lead. Flowers hit after Misty Skelton dropped a pair of toss shots for the Bulldogs to post a 42-41 lead with 15 seconds left.

Flowers earlier in the fourth quarter cracked a 41-39 lead with a three-pointer. The trey shot capped a charge at a 36-29 lead Colfax posted after a strong third quarter. The Bulldogs, who at one point missed three straight inside shots in the fourth quarter, finished the frame with just six shots.

Led by Chantelle Heath, Reardan pegged a 17-9 lead in the first quarter, but Colfax battled back to within four points at the half. Senior Shaina Simonson led Colfax with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Colfax shooting, which had marked improvement over the weekend, dropped to a under 20 percent Tuesday night against the league leaders. The Bulldogs dropped just nine field goals in the game.

Colfax out-boarded the chiefs 36-29 and forced 28 Reardan turnovers for a solid floor game, but the shooting slump left a mark.

Tuesday’s setback came after the Bulldogs rolled up a revenge win over Lind/Ritzville/Sprague at Colfax Friday night. The Bulldogs took a 62-30 win with the shooting gauges topping 42 percent.

The Bronco girls clipped Colfax 40-35 at Ritzville two weeks ago when Colfax shooting stalled out.

Saturday, Colfax dropped Kettle Falls 64-43 with Amelie Bruya hitting 22 points.

Colfax now stands in second place in the league race with a 8-3 record and five league games left. They finish out the long home stand Friday night when they host Davenport.

Last scheduled home league game will be against Liberty Feb. 5.
