SE girls battle in middle ranks

Hoop action for SE girls over the weekend featured action in the middle ranks while the league leaders, Colton and St. John/Endicott, continued to distance themselves from the rest of the pack. Colton staked strong wins over Touchet and LaCrosse/Washtucna, and the SJE Eagles fought off the GP Vikings at St. John Saturday and hammered Touchet in the Friday round.

The Eagles picked up the wins with scoring ace Alli Winters out of action with a shoulder injury. They hope to have her back Friday when the Eagles go to Rosalia where the Spartans are planning a big home game night.

Friday at Pomeroy, the Pirates put down Rosalia 57-38 to stake out the number-three slot behind the two league leaders. The Bucs, who had a rough go the previous week, jumped out to a 20-5 lead in the first quarter. Karlie Martin led with 22.

Pomeroy dropped the LW 46-15 at Washtucna in the Saturday round, and also took a non-league win, 49-44, over Asotin Tuesday when most of the league was off duty.

The Spartan girls bounced back for a 59-46 home win over Tekoa/Oakesdale Saturday at Rosalia with freshman Mackenzie Reddish hitting 18.

Nighthawk ace Alex Overton again set a league high mark with 31 in the Rosalia round.

The `hawks Friday defeated the Viking girls 45-36 in the confines of the Garfield gym to also finish the weekend with a split. After battling for the first three quarters, the Vikings hit just two beans in the last frame. The `hawks had three players in double figures in the close game and freshman Taylor Redmond led the Vikings with 17.
