Ballots due Tuesday on funding measures

More than a third of the ballots sent out for Feb. 8 special elections have already been mailed back to the Whitman County elections office. Of the 3,276 ballots mailed, 1,159 had been filled out and mailed back as of Tuesday.

Voters in the town of Rosalia, St. John cemetery district and four school districts received ballots.

The town of Rosalia is asking for a special tax levy of $50,000 for the year 2012 for the city street fund.

Lamont school district is asking for a two-year levy of $135,000 each year for 2012 and 2013 to support the district’s educational maintenance and operation expenses.

The Palouse school district is asking for a two-year levy of $340,000 for 2012 and $350,000 for 2013. That same levy was $330,000 for 2011 and $320,000 for 2010.

Garfield school district is asking for a two-year levy of $220,000 each year for 2012 and 2013. The district is also asking for a $20,000 levy for 2012 and 2013 to make repairs to the school.

The Colton school district is asking for a one-year levy of $463,179 for 2012.

The St. John cemetery district is seeking permission to lift the levy lid for the cemetery’s tax levy. The lid would be lifted to the previously authorized rate of 11 cents per $1,000 of assessed value in 2012.
