Gar-Pal players book Frankenstein
Gar-Pal Players will present the Mary Shelley classic: “Frankenstein.” This play in two acts has been dramatized by Tim Kelly, and portrays the aftermath of Dr. Frankenstein’s creation.
Driven by desire to understand life and death, young Victor Frankenstein becomes a student of biology and biochemistry. When he attends a university, his experiments finally come to fruition.
The opening performance will be Sunday, March 6, at 4 p.m. The final two performances will be Friday, March 11, and Saturday, March 12, at 7 p.m. at the Middle School Theatre in Garfield.
Tickets will be available at the door. Adults are $6 and students are $4. Refreshments provided by the Gar-Pal Performing Arts Boosters will be available at the door.

Library Friends launch raffle for Endicott branch
A raffle to raise funds for renovation to the Endicott Branch Library has been started by Friends of Whitman County Library. Revenue for the Endicott project has included $5,800 from the Endicott Community Dinner and $4,200 from local donors.
Estimated cost of the project is $120,000.
Tickets for the raffle can be purchased at a dollar each from any branch of the library. Prizes include an outdoor fireplace from The McGregor Co. and two $100 gift certificates from Rosauers. The drawing will be at the May 3 meeting of Friends of the Library in Colfax.
Tickets can also be purchased from Endicott Friends of the Library, Barbara Strader, Gail Bilow, Marg Schmick, Steve Sylvester and Kathleen Richter.
Pullman Civic Theatre books Steel Magnolias
Pullman Civic Theatre will present Steel Magnolias March 25, 26, 31, April 1 and 2, 7:30 p.m., with matinees, March 27 and April 3, both at 2 p.m. Written by Robert Harling the play involves six women who face mortality head-on with humor, wisdom and strength in a hair and nail salon in Chinquapin, La. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door for evening performances and $10 in advance, $12 at the door for matinees. Athenaeum ClubAthenaeum Club will meet at the Whitman County Library, Colfax Branch, Feb. 18, 2011, at 1 p.m. Leona Herman will present a program on the Snowdrop, the flower of late winter and early spring.

WSU Museum of Art showcases the talents of Seattle artist Claudia Fitch in an exhibition from Jan. 13 to April 2, “Claudia Fitch: Works 1987-2010” will feature sculptures created by the artist to play with images from popular culture, including vernacular architecture and decorative statuary. Fitch works intuitively from what she calls a “junk pile” of visual materials culled over the years.
Fitch has a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the University of Washington and a master’s of fine arts degree from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia.
UI Prichard Art Gallery exhibit: “John Wood, On the Edge of Clear Meaning” Feb. 21-April 9. A visual studies workshop traveling exhibition.

Whitman County Library 11th annual “Food for Fines” drive continues through Monday, Feb. 28, at all 14 library branches. Library users can exchange non-perishable food items for up to $10 in outstanding library fines. All food will be distributed to the food bank in the community where it is collected.
“We are very pleased with participation in the program so far this year. As of Feb. 14, we are ahead of our mid-month goal,” said Kristie Kirkpatrick, WCL director. Once again this year library customer donations have exceeded fines waived.
Community Action has provided each branch with a list of items that are most needed. Non-perishables may be donated at library branches in Albion, Colfax, Colton, Endicott, Farmington, Garfield, LaCrosse, Malden, Oakesdale, Palouse, Rosalia, St. John, Tekoa and Uniontown. Those patrons whose accounts have been sent to collection do not qualify for this waiver. For further details, contact the Colfax library branch, 397-4366 or toll-free at 1-877-733-3375.
