Colton wing Mollie Kramer splits a pair of Rosalia defenders on her way to the basket in the Wildcats' 80-35 win in Friday's district tournament clash.
Colton and Pomeroy girls, two teams who advanced in different modes, will collide Saturday in the title round of the SE 1B girls district playoff. The two teams will collide at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Colfax gym.
Saturday’s title game offers the district’s top two slots in the regional round next week. The SE girls also get a number-three slot into the regional round and that will go to the winner of Saturday’s consolation final. That game starts Saturday’s action at Colfax at 1 p.m.
Colton made the title show with another one of their patented cruncher verdicts, a 80-35 margin over Rosalia on the Wildcats’ court Friday night.
The win was the 20th straight for the Wildcats who cut a wide swath through the SE League campaign. They started off the Friday semi with a 30-point first quarter against the Spartans.
The defending 1B champs have a 20-1 record with the lone loss pegged on a opener at Grangeville. That outcome was reversed when the two clubs paired off again in early January at the Wildcats’ gym.
McKenzie Heaslet hit 22 points to lead Colton in the semi win.
Rosalia’s Briann Maley also finished with 22. Maley hit five three pointers on the night.
Pomeroy scrambled for a comeback win, a 49-47 margin on their home court over the SJE Eagles. The Pirates, who won the semi slot by topping the Eagles in the last league round and won the number-two slot with a draw, at one point Friday were down by 13 points.
SJE ripped to a 19-8 lead after the first quarter and still had a 28-24 lead at the break. Haylee Koller and Kindsay Bott topped the Pirates with 12 points each. Bott had seven boards.
Alli Winters of St. John topped all scorers in the semi-final round with 22 points. She hit three from outside the three-point line.
Rosalia and SJE advanced to the semi-finals with wins in the first round of the playoff last Wednesday. St. John/Endicott hammered Garfield/Palouse 61-33 on the Eagles court after shaking off a slow start last Wednesday.
Rosalia pegged a seven point lead over Tekoa/Oakesdale on the other first-round game and finished with a 64-56 win.
Tuesday, the SE show landed in Colfax for the first of a three-day run. Rosalia and St. John/Endicott prevailed in elimination games to remain in the running.
Rosalia rolled out to a 30-22 lead at the half and then blistered the Vikings in the second half for a 61-37 win. Maley again led on scorers with 24.
SJE Eagles prevailed 63-54 to end the Nighthawks’ season. The Eagles trailed by four points at the break, but dropped 38 points through the net in the last two quarters to take control.
Alexandria Overton of the `hawks hit 27 to top all scorers in the two elim rounds Tuesday at Colfax. SJE sophomore Gretchen Van Lith had her best night with 21 against the `hawks in the elimination game.
